The Arts

At St Michael’s, we believe in nurturing an appreciation of the Arts Untitled5(Art and Design, Drama, Music and Creative Writing) through providing opportunities for children to be a reflective audience as well as developing their own artistic skills.  Most curriculum subjects are planned with the Arts underpinning practical activities.

Our relationship with the Story Museum involves the children participating in interactive workshops which explore characters, settings and plots in a creative way. Stories explored in class rely on drama to deepen the understanding of characters which in turn enhances the creative writing the children produce.

Staff is encouraged to identify pupils who display talents in any of the Arts and provision is made in order to develop and celebrate their skills. St Michaels’ enters local and national competitions in Art and Design, Singing, Dance and Creative Writing with success. We hold an annual themed Art Week and participate in Oxford Arts Week which is open to the public. We have Artsmark status and some of our pupils will achieve the Bronze Art Award from Trinity College, this year.

Teaching staff are encouraged to develop their knowledge and skills in the teaching of the Arts and have the opportunity to do this though the school’s links with local organisations.
