St Michael’s C of E Primary School is looking to appoint a passionate and self-motivated School Librarian. This is a permanent, part-time post.  Please read the job description.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is keen to encourage and facilitate a love of reading in children aged from Nursery through to Year 6. As well as creating an inviting and inspiring library environment, you will run weekly library sessions for each year group, together with story times for our younger children, and open the library for lunchtime browsing and reading.  You will be responsible for ensuring the library stock is up to date and you will operate the lending library.  You will also be involved in arranging literary events including author visits and book festivals.

While a professional qualification is not necessary for this role, the successful candidate must have a broad knowledge of children’s literature and be passionate about the benefits of reading for pleasure. Experience of working in a similar environment would be advantageous, as would knowledge of using a library management system, although this is not essential as training will be given. Above all, we want someone who can enthuse about books, who brings positivity and creativity to the role, and who is not afraid to do silly voices when reading Mr Gum aloud!

The School

St Michael’s is a single form entry Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School in Marston, close to the centre of the city of Oxford.  Our school is committed to creating an environment in which every member of our school community can thrive.  A great strength of our school is the diversity of our community, something that we celebrate, while recognising that each of us is unique.

Our latest Ofsted inspection, in March 2022, says this about our school:

‘Pupils are bright, lively and eager to learn.  They enjoy coming to this welcoming school because they feel safe, see their friends and love playing together in the spacious grounds.  Pupils are kind to each other and are proud of their nurturing school.  This is because relationships are prioritised at St Michael’s.  The strong ethos and values are evident throughout all aspects of school life.’

What we can offer you:

  • A forward looking and supportive school
  • A nurturing learning environment where all are respected and valued
  • Caring, well behaved and highly motivated children
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • Friendly, hardworking and enthusiastic staff
  • Supportive parents, committed Governors and an active PTA
